SIX APPEAL

The draw has been made for next month's Sangsom 6 reds event in Bangkok, Thailand.

Won last year by Ricky Walden, the 2009 tournament includes Crucible finalists John Higgins and Shaun Murphy as well as the likes of Matthew Stevens, Ryan Day, Ken Doherty, Mark Williams and Jimmy White.

I understand it is likely highlights will be shown on British TV later in the year.

You can view the draw here.

I don't know why they bother taking events to far flung places. Of the 32 players in the world champs, 28 were from the UK, 1 from Oz, 2 from China, and 1 from HK. Why not just hold all the events in the UK where 90+% of the players are from? It's just unnecessary expense to fly half way around the world when we have no snooker in the UK at present.

Who are "they"?

Maybe the idea is to develop the game elsewhere as it is in decline in UK innit? First logical step being to give people the opportunity to watch it live ...
